Märklin & Tenmille Measurement Photo Reference Gallery

Throughout the past few years, I have been collecting model train parts that are near-to-identical matches to those used as donor pieces to create the iconic engine characters from the original live-action model animated series of Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends. These parts come from model trains produced by the German and British-based companies Märklin and Tenmille, respectively. Since 2018, I have been using these parts for a project of my own to create studio scale gauge 1 replica models of Thomas and Percy and document the progress in a series of videos on my YouTube and Twitter pages.

Over the years, I have received multiple messages and comments from fellow modelers of both 2D and 3D mediums alike asking about measurements or close-up pictures of the parts I have, understandably because they are expensive, and/or difficult to find. I eventually began to realize that this was becoming a definite need for people who wanted to build models of their own. Of course, there have already been a plethora of official ruler reference photos of many of the props used in the show, and while they are great for getting a sense of the general scale of the models, they leave room for uncertainty about the preciseness of the props' measurements.

I wanted to find a way to contribute to this community, so I decided to take a series of photos of all the donor pieces I collected, label them with precise measurements, and compile them together into a photo gallery for the benefit of those interested in model-making. This gallery is by no means perfect or complete, but it should help with getting certain details of the engines as accurate as possible. If there are any measurements that are missing or seem unclear in the photos, please do not hesitate to let me know in the comments below and I will edit them to make them better. Be sure to come back to this page for updates. Enjoy!

  1. How do I make an HO scale RWS Thomas model?

  2. Honestly, I don't think I'm the best person to answer this question because I've never made any HO scale RWS models. Perhaps you could look to someone like WhitehouseFilms or Sparkshot on YouTube for assistance? My apologies for the inconvenience.
